“I will create a garden to live in because this world is getting very strange”

Throughout traditional textile techniques such as crochet and embroidery, Araújo’s practice reflects on the passage of time and the evolving relationship between human beings and nature. Her impulse to create a personal garden, or a [fantasy] space of retreat, speaks to the need of finding moments of respite amid the world’s chaos. In doing so, she invites viewers to consider art as a site where genuine coexistence can emerge, and where differences are not only acknowledged but valued, becoming metaphors for the dissolution of boundaries.
Themes such as ageism, transformation, tolerance, harmony, and respect recur throughout Araújo’s weaving / crocheting process, ultimately shaping and defining the work itself as a utopian, feminine textile landscape in which coexistence gently unfolds.
